“Barbicaia”, in the Val d'Orcia dialect, indicates the group of vine roots that emerge from the ground. A name that Marco Barbi chose for the wines produced on his family's farm in Nottola, just outside Montepulciano. The winery had been active since the 1960s, with production for "family" use, while most of the grapes produced in the 2.5 hectares of property were sold. The company's modernization process started by Marco at the end of the 1990s was completed in 2011: the time was ripe to start making wine ourselves.
