It was 1669 when, returning from a trip to France, Orazio Spada brought some Grenache scions from which he was able to produce an exquisite wine, the "Chianti di Viceno". Kept and handed down from father to son for 400 years, we still keep free-footed strains of the original clone today. We have added Syrah, Riesling Renano and Alicante plants to the Grenache vineyards.
