Spessa Castle represents one of the best-known excellences of Friuli Venezia Giulia. The origins of the winery date back to the end of the 1970s, when Loretto Pali purchased an estate of around 60 hectares in the Isonzo area, which still today constitutes the main nucleus of the company and the most important production centre.

In 1987 the property expanded with the acquisition of the Castello di Spessa and 28 hectares of vineyards located in the splendid area of the Collio Goriziano, on the hills of Capriva del Friuli. Today the cellar is able to offer a wide range of labels, which represent the best terroirs of the region, interpreted with a refined style, which focuses above all on elegance and mineral freshness.

All Castello di Spessa wines are produced exclusively with proprietary vineyards, so as to be able to control the entire supply chain from plant to bottle. The grapes come from the two estates: Isonzo and Collio. These are terroirs of excellence, which can enjoy a privileged geographical location.

The soils of the Collio are composed of marls and sandstones of Eocene origin, friable and rich in mineral substances, while the soils of the Isonzo are of alluvial origin and the superficial layer of red earth insists on a deep substratum of pebbles and gravels.

The vineyards are managed with short pruning and low yields per hectare, in order to obtain few bunches with a good aromatic concentration. The choice of vines faithfully reflects the traditions of the area with: Ribolla Gialla, Friulano, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Bianco, Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. To preserve the richness and aromatic integrity of the grapes, the harvests take place at night, in order to prune fresh and fragrant grapes in the cellar and avoid oxidation. The vinifications were carried out in a parceled manner, to highlight all the nuances of the territory, using delicate practices that always respected excellent quality grapes.
